Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for the term ahead.

In Mars and Comet class this half term our topic is called Land Ahoy and will have a focus on pirates and geography. The children will learn about life as a pirate and develop their map skills. This has begun with our pirate day today. We would like to that all of the parents who came in to help.

Reading

A reminder that children are expected to read at least 3 times a week and get their diary signed by an adult or older brother or sister in order for them to be a Reader Leader. If your child does not read 3 times then you will get a message and your child will miss 5 minutes of their Golden Time.

PE

Mars and Comet class PE session is on a Thursday. Please can you make sure your child’s PE is in school on that day.

Spellings

This term our spelling focus will be on the Y2 spelling patterns. We will be teaching the patterns in class and your child will bring spellings home which reflect these patterns. The children receive their spellings on a Friday and have the week to learn them. A quick test is given on the following Friday and the results are shared on the next spellings. These spelling sheets do not need to be returned to school.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Richardson and Miss Bradley

We are continuing our Reader Leader Challenge this year, children need to read at least 3 times a week and they will receive a small prize and a sticker on the chart. Please sign your child’s reading diary to show that your child has read. Well done to all those reader leaders this term.

As well as reading three time a week, children will also receive spellings and a piece of numeracy homework each Friday. Spellings should be practised throughout the week ready for the spelling test on a Friday. Homework needs to be completed and handed in by the following Friday.
